The basilisk venom in Gryffindor's sword poisoned Hermione, so Draco cut off her hand with fiendfyre so it wouldn't spread. Shell probably get a prosthetic like his. Am I on the right track? ;)

Terribly sorry, but I have a terrible (and well-developed) fear of your cliffies, so I made myself wait for the next one to be up before reading this. Guessing games? Ok, ummmm, basilisk venom poisoning? On I go now, more at the end of the next one.

Anne B. Walsh replied:

If you fear cliffies, why are you reading my work at all? *innocent smile*

My guess, based on the look of Hermione's hand is that the Sword had basilisk venom left on it. When Hermione cut her hand getting the sword to Harry, the venom got into her system, and Draco burned it to stop it from killing her. We already know that the loss of a hand is not the end of the world (but unfortunately, Hermione is not in the universe where something can be done - at this time).

Anne B. Walsh replied:

You got it! Good work!

If you could tell me exactly what you don't understand, that might help...

Well, my guess regarding Draco's actions has towith the green color you mentioned and the possibility that had he left her hand alone she would die from the poison on the blade of the sword of Gryffindor. other than that, I eagerly await the next chapter of this remarkable story

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Well done!

I feel a little dumb.
Basilisk venom makes more sense.

Anne B. Walsh replied:

You're not dumb. It was a good guess.

Well, i'm not sure, but could it be related to Draco's missing arm?
I'm so happy!
I love updates!

Let me guess - saving her life from basilisk venom?

Anne B. Walsh replied:

You guess correctly!

Obviously if Hermione was cut by the sword of Gryfindor she has been poisoned by basilisk venom so Draco has actually saved her life by amputating the contaminated area. It's possibly he can even get her a prosthetic hand from the other world. Love this entire story and the last chapter in particular. I'm not sure why you had them captured by snatchers here because it serves no purpose however I am sure you have your reasons (you are the evil mastermind behind this). I can't believe after all this, you've seperated the trio though. They're too wonderful together to work well apart. That and it's killing me not knowing where Harry and Ginny are. Your version of the DA galleon is interesting because I always thought there was only one galleon that could send a message. Anyway, fabulous story!!!- please try to find time to update.

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Oooh you're good. Trust me, there's purpose to them being caught, though it's not necessarily one people will like... and I've taken the Galleon stuff from DH, where Neville mentions they've been using them to communicate.

The hand is easy, two words: Basilisk. Poison.

I love it, I really do. The fact that Ginny guessed is brilliant...poor Harry doesn't have a clue!

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Does Harry ever have a clue? Ever?

Wait a minute, back up the Hogwarts express....
what was that green tinge to the cut. That's not normal...is it?
Gonna sleep over it, goodnight. :D

Anne B. Walsh replied:

No, it's not. It's called basilisk venom and it's very dangerous.

HGRHfan35 posted a comment on Tuesday 21st July 2009 8:17am for 75: What Hurts You Take

Oh my .... *gasping loudly*
What.. what.. *sputters*..why...how...this has to be a fake. It has to be.
But why?
You must be in a great mood to display such evilness. :D

Thanks for the 'non eating' warning.

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Nope, not a fake.

Ooooo what an awesome cliffie! Can't wait for the next chapter! :-D

Hope you don't have to wait too long!

Well, that's one way to get rid of basilisk venom. Pretty drastic, but I suppose the Malfoy's don't have a handy phoenix hanging around. More, please?

Anne B. Walsh replied:

True, they don't. More soon!

Lita posted a comment on Tuesday 21st July 2009 5:24am for 75: What Hurts You Take

Is it bc of the basilisk venom imbibed by the sword? Was he actually saving her? I hope so.
And update soon, please!

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Yep, yep, and will do!

BaltaineShadow posted a comment on Tuesday 21st July 2009 3:50am for 75: What Hurts You Take

Well... it came as a shock... it really did. But wasn't there still some Basilisk venom on the sword? Hermione would have died if he hadn't done it... i guess.
And it really let him look pretty good in front of all those Death Eaters.
Ans now be nice and go in writing!

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Well spotted--both reasons encapsulated in one review!

shanntarra posted a comment on Tuesday 21st July 2009 2:24am for 75: What Hurts You Take

You had to remove her hand. The baslisk venom was on the blade. It was going to kill her. She is going to be apaluded at what he did, but slightly greatful when she realizes WHY he did it. Draco might be an arse, but he does know (most of the time) what he is doing.

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Oh, she knows why he did it. She's not particularly happy about it, but she knows it's her own fault... though Harry will probably try to blame himself as usual.

XanDutch posted a comment on Tuesday 21st July 2009 12:39am for 75: What Hurts You Take

Basilisk venom, duh. *G*

Having just caught up on the whole story, I look forward to finding out how they'll get out of this one!

Anne B. Walsh replied:

Hey, don't make fun of the mentally-differently-abled. :-)

Gardengirl posted a comment on Monday 20th July 2009 10:39pm for 75: What Hurts You Take

Naah, it makes perfect sense. The sword is lousy with Basilisk venom, and that green tinge was the poison trying to kill her. He knows that he can get her to the Other Narcissa, who can make her a new hand... and all that. Beautifully done!

Anne B. Walsh replied:

The Other Narcissa? She's got a name, you know. :-)
